What to Expect in Worship
Sundays at Fourth Universalist are different than they used to be. Now, when you join us, you may be online, or on your phone, at home, or out on a jog, laying in bed with the camera off or sitting at your desk in your Sunday best. However you choose to join, we are happy to have you with us!
If you are joining us by video, you will first click the zoom link to join us on Sunday. You will find yourself prompted to open the Zoom app. If you haven’t already downloaded it, feel free to do so, but you are not required to. You will enter a virtual waiting room, but don’t worry, you shouldn’t be there long! Soon, one of our helpful staff will let you into the worship space, where you will be greeted and allowed to settle in.
If you arrive anytime after 10:50am, you will see a welcome slide on your screen and hear music playing. The music is curated by our music staff and connected to the theme of the service. The service begins at 11am, usually with an introduction by one of our ministers.
You are encouraged to introduce yourself in the chat, fill out our visitor survey, share joys and concerns during our communal prayer time. The service lasts for roughly an hour and involves a welcome, opening words, chalice lighting, music, time for all ages, meditation/prayer, reading, reflection from a minister, an offering, and closing words. Following the service, you are invited to a virtual “coffee hour,” where the congregation breaks up into smaller breakout groups to talk about the service and get to know each other better. You are welcome to stay for that if you would like!
Regardless, we hope you will join us, knowing we are doing our best to make visiting online as stress-free and comfortable as possible. Should you wish to reach out to us ahead of time, our Director of Membership and Hospitality, Soyal Smalls, would love to hear from you. She can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
