What to Expect in Worship
Sundays at Fourth Universalist are different than they used to be. Now, when you join us, you may be in-person, or on your phone, out on a jog, or watching from your laptop over breakfast. However you choose to join, we are happy to have you with us!
If you are joining us in-person, just visit us in our building at 160 Central Park West (corner of CPW and 76th Street). Come on in through our front doors and you will be greeted by our welcoming team. In this pandemic time, you will be asked to sign-in, providing some information for contacting tracing. If you have kids, you’ll connect with our religious education team, who will help orient you and your family. We can’t wait to meet you!
If you are joining us by video or phone, you will first click the zoom link to join us on Sunday. You will find yourself prompted to open the Zoom app. If you haven’t already downloaded it, feel free to do so, but you are not required to. You will enter a virtual waiting room, but don’t worry, you shouldn’t be there long! Soon, one of our helpful staff will let you into the worship space, where you will be greeted and allowed to settle in. The service begins at 11am, usually with an introduction by one of our ministers.
Whether in-person or online, our service lasts for roughly an hour and involves a welcome, opening words, chalice lighting, music, time for all ages, meditation/prayer, reading, reflection from a minister, an offering, and closing words. Following the service, you are invited to “coffee hour.” You are welcome to stay for that if you would like!
Regardless, we hope you will join us, knowing we are doing our best to make visiting during this time of pandemic as stress-free and safe as possible. Should you wish to reach out to us ahead of time, our Director of Membership and Hospitality, Soyal Smalls, would love to hear from you. She can be reached at membership@4thu.org.
