Acting Congregational Engagement Manager


Reports to: Minister

Status: Part Time (10 hours/week) 

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Salary: $14,475 – $16,100/yr

Benefits: Prorated Paid Time Off and $1,220.00 in professional expenses annually 


Job Summary

The Acting Congregational Engagement Manager is our community connector and will serve as the welcoming ambassador to Fourth Universalist. In partnership with the professional staff and lay leadership, your main focus will be to engage our members with Fourth U’s mission. This role will report to the Minister.

You’re the right candidate if you’re a natural people connector who brings energy, warmth and familiarity with and love of Unitarian Universalism to the position. You’ll succeed if you’re comfortable with people and details, have a strong sense of professionalism, and are fluent with both social and traditional media.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Congregational Responsibilities

  • Partner with lay leaders and professional staff to co-create opportunities that engage and immerse congregants in worship services and social activities
  • Oversee volunteers to greet and provide hospitality during Community Hour
  • Serves as lead staff person for Membership and Hospitality
  • Other duties as assigned by the Minister


Member Engagement

  • Meet with members to understand their motivations and interests, and make connections between and among them
  • Work with the Executive Director to manage new member data collection and attendance data collection at services 
  • Develop a clear pathway to membership and guide them along the way 
  • Cultivate relationships with new members to connect them into the community
  • Engages with the virtual community
  • Responsible for tracking and ordering membership supplies
  • Work with the Minister on the New Member Ceremony



  • Responsible for tracking and ordering hospitality supplies
  • Responsible for recruiting and training hospitality volunteers



  • Work with the Executive Director to develop marketing and promotional materials
  • Frequently communicate with congregants using social media and traditional platforms
  • Working jointly with the Executive Director on maintaining the Realm database


Pastoral Care

  • Lead the Joys and Sorrows portion of worship service
  • Manage the Pastoral Care database on Google sheets, including inputting Joys and Sorrows information


Experience and Qualifications Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of relevant congregational or non-profit or educational experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Google products
  • Ability to program, plan, recruit, motivate, and organize volunteers
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills


Preferred Requirements & Experience

  • Takes the initiative and works collaboratively with people of different skills, passions, and opinions
  • Exhibits empathy and active listening skills
  • Displays an understanding of Unitarian Universalism and familiarity with the needs of a UU congregation
