The Fourth Universalist Society is delighted to welcome Soyal Smalls as our new Director of Membership and Hospitality. After a rigorous interview process, she was selected by our search committee to assume leadership of this new role, which combines the work of membership with welcoming, hospitality, and community building.
We invite you to join me this Sunday, June 16th as we formally welcome Soyal to Fourth Universalist. During the service, we will thank our current membership professional, Rev. Mark Cutolo, as he transitions to become an Affiliate Minister in our congregation, introduce Soyal, and offer a blessing to them both. We will have a special coffee hour that will even include cake. We hope you will come to meet her and give her a warm welcome!
Here is a little bit about Soyal, in her own words:
Soyal feels joyous and fortunate to serve the Fourth Universalist Society as its Director of Membership and Hospitality. Since the age of three, she was raised within the Unitarian Universalist Faith tradition. Soyal couldn’t imagine a better opportunity to welcome and engage with folks whose journey brought them to Fourth Universalist, all the while sharing a little bit about what it’s like to be a part of this amazing community.
Soyal has a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Performance Arts and with this background she serves on the board of an arts and culture nonprofit organization and performs as puppeteer for an ecologically centered theater company. She has recently completed her Master’s in Public Administration (Public Management) from Marist College. Her home is in Poughkeepsie New York, which is located in the scenic Hudson Valley, north of New York City. She lives there with her fiancé and two-year-old daughter and also spends time coordinating activities for the young adults of her home UU congregation and relaxing with her family.
Following her introduction to the congregation this Sunday, Soyal will begin work with us July 1st. You may reach out to her then at firstname.lastname@example.org.
