Our May book club selection is the novel Mr. Loverman by Bernardine Evaristo. We’ll read about and discuss Barrington Jedidiah Walker, a seventy-four year London resident who leads a double life. Born and bred in Antigua, he’s lived in Hackney, London with his wife and daughters. A flamboyant character with a fondness for William Shakespeare, Barrington is a husband, father, grandfather-and secretly gay. With an abundance of laugh-out-loud humor and wit as well as heartbreakingly honest moments, Mr. Loverman explodes cultural myths and shows the extent of what can happen when people fear the consequences of being true to themselves. Join us after coffee hour for a lively discussion of the novel.
